Why should I donate furniture & household goods?
By donating reusable furniture & household goods you are helping reduce the amount of waste that is dumped in landfills. Recycling and upcycling decreases waste and pollution in the environment when items do not have to decompose or be incinerated. The average wooden chair can take up to 13 years to decompose in the landfill and longer if it has been painted. Sofas and mattresses can take 60-120 years to decompose depending on their material composition. If you are unable to reuse items in your household or business, consider donating before throwing them away.
Here at CFB, your gently used furniture and household goods are used by our agency to support our mission services. We also do our part to be environmentally friendly with our waste. Unusable clothing items are recycled, and some of the damaged furniture and household goods go to local fire departments to assist in live fire training following EPA guidelines, instead of the landfill.
