Job Description – Development and Communications Director

Summary: For almost 20 years, the Cleveland Furniture Bank (CFB) has provided furniture and mattresses to people in need in Northeast Ohio who seek to establish a stable place to live.   CFB picks up furniture and other items from individuals and businesses in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Summit, Medina and Lorain counties.  The items are distributed through CFB’s Furniture for Families program or sold through an associated thrift store that provides the financial support necessary to serve those in need. The CFB’s Beds for Kids program provides single beds and cribs for the young children of the referred families. Annually, CFB provides almost 20,000 pieces of furniture to over 3,500 individuals and almost 1,000 beds for kids.

Position Overview: CFB is creating a new management position, Development and Communications Director, who will report to the Executive Director and assist the Executive Director with overseeing the day-to- day mission and program activities, including the following responsibilities:

  • Fundraising with private and corporate donors including grant writing and grant management; achieving specific fund-raising goals annually 
  • Developing relationships with agencies, municipalities, faith-based and community entities, and other local organizations able to contribute to or benefit from our mission; identifying key organizations to develop deep relationships and strategic partnerships
  • Executing on mutually beneficial partnerships with other non-profit and for-profit organizations to support the mission
  • Identifying and collaborating with similar or related non-profits nation-wide to learn and contribute to our joint objectives
  • Leading the development of a marketing plan and communications strategy focused on store growth, mission impact and community awareness
  • Exploring and activating public awareness campaigns in conjunction with our marketing plan
  • Implementing the organization’s strategic plan, which includes initiatives for diversified revenue streams, increased on-line sales, expanded community partnerships, innovative outreach, and greater awareness of the mission through improved marketing and communications
  • Partnering in the overall management of the organization, including store operations, donation collections, workforce management, and financial reporting; periodically updating the Board on progress

Job requirements:

  • Experience (at least 10 years) in the following areas:
    • non-profit, human services sector
    • fundraising and grant writing
    • HR management and/or supervisory role
    • building collaborative partnerships with diverse community partners
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Passion to help uplift residents in need in the Greater Cleveland Area
  • Well organized and self-starter
  • Bachelor’s degree or substantial, relevant professional experience in administration, nonprofit management, marketing and communications, or related business or human services field

  • Budgeting and financial management
  • Strategic planning and implementation
  • Digital communication tools or digital development tools

The Development and Communications Director must be located within driving distance of our location (Parma/Parma Heights, Ohio).  This role requires regular in-person attendance.  This is a full-time, salaried position, with an IRA retirement plan, dental insurance, performance bonus opportunity and paid time off.  The salary range begins at $70,000.  Please submit a resume and cover letter to tom@clevelandfurniturebank.org
